Have you ever faced a moment where everything seemed to go wrong, but you had to push through anyway? That’s what it often feels like for me as an aerial videographer. One time, I was standing on a windy hill, trying to capture the perfect sunset shot. Suddenly, the weather turned bad, and I had to choose: risk losing my drone or call it a day. What would you have done?
At Sky Perth, every project comes with moments like these. Sometimes, it’s the weather and other times, it’s tight deadlines or technical issues. But no matter the problem, I know the best shots often come from the hardest challenges.
Why is it so hard to get the perfect shot?
Aerial videography isn’t as simple as flying a drone and pressing “record.” There’s a lot to think about. Is the weather right? Are all the permits ready? Will I even have enough time to get the shot? And when things don’t go to plan, it can feel frustrating.
But those tough moments are also what make it exciting. Like the time I filmed whales near Rottnest Island. I had to wait for hours, watching and hoping they’d appear. When they finally did, it was amazing. Those are the moments that make me love what I do.
What do I learn from the challenges?
Every challenge teaches me something new. I’ve learned to stay calm under pressure, solve problems quickly, and never give up. These lessons are what make Sky Perth unique. We don’t just capture great visuals; we work hard to make every project unique and meaningful.
Do you think challenges make us better at what we do? For me, the answer is yes. Each difficulty reminds me to improve and stay creative. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
What about your challenges?
Have you faced challenges that felt impossible to overcome? Maybe it was a big project at work or something in your personal life. What kept you going?
For me, those tough moments push me to be better. They help me see things in new ways and remind me why I do what I do. What about you—what lessons have your challenges taught you?
If you’re facing challenges that seem overwhelming, it helps to have a clear plan. Here’s a simple process I follow when things get tricky:
- Pause and Assess – Take a moment to understand the problem. What’s the root cause? What’s at stake?
- Break It Down – Split the challenge into smaller steps. Tackling one thing at a time feels less overwhelming.
- Adapt Your Approach – If something isn’t working, try a different way. Flexibility often leads to better solutions.
- Ask for Help – You don’t have to do it all alone. Reach out to someone who might have insight or experience.
- Stay Focused on the Goal – Keep reminding yourself why this matters. Having a clear purpose can motivate you to push through.
By following these steps, you can turn challenges into opportunities to grow and succeed.
What’s one step you could take today to move forward?
Best,
Rodrigo Branco Matsumoto.
