Struggling with work-life balance? You’re not alone.

Even as I guide our drones through the skies, I, too, navigate the delicate balance between professional pursuits and personal joys. It’s a dance I haven’t mastered, and if you feel the same way, we’re in it together.

In his book “Atomic Habits,” James Clear eloquently states, “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” It got me thinking — perhaps work-life balance isn’t about reaching for an ideal but establishing a system that harmonises our responsibilities with our passions.

So, I’ve crafted a ‘flight plan’ for life, setting defined boundaries and ensuring my work doesn’t infringe upon the time reserved for family, hobbies, or rest. I’ve made it a mission to prioritise tasks for efficiency and carve out moments for rejuvenation that fuel my next day’s journey.

Whether in the field flying drones or at home, I’m learning to be present. Mindfulness is critical to me.

But the horizon constantly changes, and the quest for balance is ongoing. I’d love to hear from you — what are your strategies for maintaining work-life balance? Are there ‘flight checks’ you perform to ensure you’re on course?

Best,

Rodrigo Branco Matsumoto.
