Saying yes seems like a good habit, but it can lead to stress and burnout. As someone passionate about visual storytelling and collaborating with major brands, I’ve learned the importance of setting boundaries. Always agreeing to take on new projects or help others can stretch you too thin, affecting your mental and physical health.

In my early career, I often said yes to every opportunity, thinking it would help me grow. But instead, I found myself overwhelmed, struggling to meet deadlines, and sacrificing quality. There were nights I barely slept and days when my creativity felt drained. The turning point came when a major project suffered because I had taken on too much. I realised that to truly excel, I needed to protect my well-being by setting boundaries.

Recognise the Signs of Overcommitment

When you say yes too often, you may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unable to focus. These are clear signs that you’re overcommitted.

Understand the Impact on Quality

Overloading yourself can compromise the quality of your work. It’s better to focus on a few tasks and do them well than to spread yourself too thin.

Learn to Prioritise

Identify what’s most important to you and prioritise those tasks. This might mean turning down some opportunities, but it will help you manage your time and energy better.

Practice Saying No

Saying no can be difficult, but it’s essential for your well-being. Start small by turning down less critical requests and gradually build up to more significant commitments.

By setting boundaries and learning to say no, you can protect your well-being and ensure you’re at your best for the projects and people that matter most.

Did you know? Stress from overcommitment can affect your creativity and health.

You matter more than any project. Protect your well-being.

If there is anything I can help or want to discuss about it, let me know ;)
