My FPV Drone Journey Inside 7News and The West Australian

Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes in a bustling newsroom? I certainly have, and this curiosity led me to embark on an incredible journey. Along with my team at 7News and The West Australian, we explored these dynamic environments in a novel way – through the lens of FPV (First Person View) drones.

The concept was thrilling: to capture the vibrant life within two of Australia’s leading news organisations. It was a fusion of ambition and innovation but required more than creativity. One of our key steps was obtaining approval from CASA for FPV and BVLOS drone operations, ensuring our adventure was safe and compliant.

As I piloted the drones through the 7News and The West Australian corridors, I was struck by the unseen world of news-making. There were journalists, deeply engrossed in their stories, and a fascinating scene of AI robots and conveyor belts efficiently managing the newspapers. My from Sky Perth and I captured these unique moments with each flight, telling a story rarely seen by the outside world.

Manoeuvring drones in such intricate spaces was a challenge. I had to navigate carefully, avoiding obstacles to keep the footage smooth. This task was not just about flying drones; it demonstrated the incredible potential of FPV technology in journalism.

The footage we captured was extraordinary. It gives an immersive insight into how news is made from a perspective that’s new to most viewers. This project has captivated our audience and raised the bar for storytelling within our field.

This project was more than just a series of flights; it was a testament to our commitment to innovation in journalism. It’s an exciting time, and I am eager to see where our creativity and technological advancements will take us next.

I encourage you to watch this fantastic journey and share your thoughts.
